Kazakhstan’s vehicle production accelerated by 36.8% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, with 45,260 units manufactured, according to the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU) as cited by Times of Central Asia. This output covers passenger cars, trucks, trailers, and semi-trailers.
The sector’s robust performance saw total automotive output reach approximately $1.2 billion in value, a 27.5% increase year-on-year. This elevated the automotive sector's share of the overall machinery industry to 43.1%, up from 39.7% recorded a year earlier.
March alone saw output reach 17,462 units, a 42.8% increase year-on-year and 19.9% higher than February. KAU President Anar Makasheva noted this confirms "steady growth" and "positive trends" in the sector.
Significant growth also occurred in the auto components segment, reaching 259.8 billion tenge over three months, a fourfold increase year-on-year. Manufacturers plan to accelerate growth in this segment further, indicating strategic industry development.
Passenger cars led production with 42,115 units, up 37.9% year-on-year. Truck output increased by 16.7% to 1,380 units, while bus production surged by 73.2% to 750 units, and trailers/semi-trailers by 21% to 904 units.
The Kostanay-based Allur plant remained the industry leader, producing 14,234 vehicles. Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan (12,778 units) and Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan (10,755 units) were major contributors, alongside Kia Qazaqstan (4,640 units).
This production surge extends the record-setting trend from 2025, when Kazakhstan manufactured over 171,000 vehicles. The auto industry's sustained growth supports the nation's economic diversification strategy, strengthening its manufacturing base and industrial footprint in Central Asia.
